| Some Biography | ||
| Ken Edwards, who has been a horseman for most of
his 39 years(42 now almost :-(, ) bases his career on a broad riding
background. From age 10 to 17 Ken's riding progressed under the direct
instruction of Jessica Newberry Ransehousen, 3-time veteran of the U.S. Olympic
Dressage Team, and her many upper level students. Several of these students
were young riders with many years of serious training under George Morris. Ken evented to the Preliminary Level, training one horse for a year from the race track to win his third event, a Prelim at UNH. Qualifying the horse to compete for the De Broke Trophy, the National Prelim championships. He has coached several intermediate and advanced level event riders, including his own sister, Tara Edwards, then listed 10th leading rider/horse combination, in the USCTA. Later he turned his attention to the jumping ring. He furthered his riding education with many other equestrian greats, including Major Hector Carmona, former coach of the U.S. Equestrian Team, Olympian Frank Chapot, and show jumper Mark Jungherr. Ken also trained show jumpers for Olympic gold medallist, Melanie Smith. He was assigned to do much of the flatwork (dressage) for the 11 jumpers in the string. As a teacher, Ken is noted for his eye. He is quickly able to discern and isolate sources of difficulty for both horse and rider. He has taught literally thousands of riders over the years and feels that his strengths as a teacher are in his ability to communicate his analysis of horse or rider problems to the rider so that they can be solved. He teaches not only the what but the why of riding problems. Ken is a graduate 'B' of the USPC, and has served as Regional Supervisor for the Western New England region. Ken works with event riders to better their dressage and stadium performances. He is particularly interested in preparing Grand Prix horses and riders in the jumping ring. He is currently bringing along several horses with this goal in mind. Ken is additionally skilled in matching mount with rider and is realistic in matching both with suitable equestrian goals. He has 20 years experience in the equine sales field and offers sound advice in equine investments. New UpdateTwo years ago I went to Germany with Anna Nenonen. I chose two stallions for her, then not yet two years old. These horses are now turning five. The Holsteiner Verband came over and gave one of them, Cicera's Icewater, the highest score of any Holsteiner on American soil ever!
